Drink of the Day: The Elvis Presley

Behind the Burner: Drink of the Day: The Elvis Presley

Very few liquors impress me. I was amused by chipotle flavored vodka, rum soaked with cranberries and tequila that tasted faintly of dried, smoked wood but I was truly tickled pink by Bakon Vodka. Not your dad's sipping drink, this gem of a liquor smells, tastes, but does not look like the pork product itself. While a Bloody Mary would compliment this clear booze to a B, I vastly prefer the almost sweet, but death-defyingly delicious, Elvis Presley. No matter what the occasion, the King of Rock & Roll does not disappoint with a smoky flavor, hint of sweet and the desire to keep consuming until the cows come home.

The Elvis Presley

1 oz Bakon Vodka
1/2 oz Hazelnut Liqueur
1/2 oz Banana Liqueur
Splash of Cream

Shake with ice and serve like a martini or strained into a shot glass.

Just like the man himself, smothered in bacon and bananas, this succulent sipper will have you wishing for a pair of blue suede shoes to rock out in (all while enjoying your cocktail!)

Trick: Substitute the Hazelnut Liqueur for a little dark chocolate syrup for a super sweet kick!

Dessert of the Day: Pecan Pumpkin Pie

Behind the Burner: Dessert of the Day: Pecan Pumpkin Pie

Yes, it may be considered cliche, but absolutely no Thanksgiving dinner is complete without a delicious and creamy pumpkin pie. Even though it wasn't enjoyed at the first Thanksgiving (although the Pilgrims did eventually figure out how to make a spicy pumpkin pudding), pumpkin pie is undeniably an American tradition. Almost every home this Thursday will have a pumpkin pie on their table for dessert...but this year, make your pie stand out among the other pumpkin-flavored pies, cakes, and cookies.

Nothing beats a home-made pumpkin pie, and this recipe for Pecan Pumpkin Pie is a fabulous choice. Even if you're crunched for time, this dessert can be prepared and baked in about 70 minutes. Made with simple ingredients, this pie will be sure to delight everyone at the table and uphold the classic Thanksgiving tradition.

Ingredients
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/3 cup white sugar
2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
3 eggs
2/3 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup white sugar
3 tbsp. melted butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups pecan halves
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie

Preparation
1. Mix together one egg, pumpkin, 1/3 cup sugar and spice; spread over bottom of pie shell.

2.Combine 2 eggs, corn syrup, 1/2 cup sugar, butter and vanilla.

3. Stir in pecans. Spread over pumpkin mixture.

4. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 50 minutes or until filling is set.

Tip: Make your pie extra special by making your own pumpkin pie spice (1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1/8 teaspoon of ground allspice, and an 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg).

Product of the Day: Creative Danes Ovenproof Steam Tower

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Creative Danes Ovenproof Steam Tower

For many busy Americans, cooking can almost seem like a chore. We want something that tastes good, is good for us, and is generally easy to prepare. And for most of us, the light at the end of the tunnel after a long day at work is not coming home and spending hours in the kitchen. Thanks to the new Asian inspired Scandinavian design, the Creative Danes' Ovenproof Steam Tower, you need no longer stress about preparing a healthy and delicious meal with minimal cleanup.

The steam tower is divided into 3 porcelain dishes. All of the dishes, except for the bottom are designed with holes to enable the juice and liquid from the meat or fish and vegetables to drip down into the bottom dish that can contain pasta or rice to create a slowly cooked sauce or gravy. After the contents in the 3 tiers are cooked, they can be easily disconnected and ready to serve exactly as they are. Because all parts of the meal are cooked with steam, this steam tower keeps the meal healthy, while also keeping it juicy, crispy, and delicious.

Tip: When you steam food, you don't need to use oil or butter to keep food moist. Steaming also helps retain vitamins and minerals within the food.

Dessert of the Day: ByMdesserts

Behind the Burner: Dessert of the Day: ByMdesserts

If you've been keeping up with Top Chef: Just Desserts, you already know about last night's drama with Cheftestant Malika Ameen. Her daring delicacies may look sweet on TV, but lucky for you, they're now available to taste in person.

Although her stint on TV may have come to an end, her new business, ByMdesserts, is only just beginning. Malika creates "Couture Cookies" made with quality ingredients such as Saigon cinnamon and cardamom. They are crunchy, chewy and soft in all the right places, making for a truly delightful bite after a meal (or before, your choice...)

Tip: Try the Walnut Cardamom cookies (my favorite), but be sure to keep a stack of napkins handy! These cookies are covered in a delicious vanilla bean powdered sugar that's just too tasty not to lick straight off the cookie, but will make it look like you got in a fight with a chalk board.

Snack of the Day: Artisana Organic Raw Cashew Butter

Behind the Burner: Snack of the Day: Artisana Organic Raw Cashew Butter

Artisana Organic Raw Cashew Butter is outrageously delicious, by far my favorite nut butter I've tasted to date. I can't believe I've found something I like just as much as (actually more then) my beloved peanut butter. This nut butter is naturally sweet with no added ingredients— just 100% organic roasted cashews (no peanuts, gluten, dairy or GMO's).

The creamy texture and delicate flavor makes for a cashew butter that melts in your mouth while providing a boost of energy and nutrition from the essential amino acids, vitamin K and zinc. Tip: Try using cashew butter in a smoothie, sauce or smeared on a piece of bread with your favorite jelly. Simply heavenly!
