Product of the Day: Melitta Creme Brulee

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Melitta Creme Brulee

You know that feeling of waking up, walking to your kitchen and having a great cup of coffee waiting for you? Neither do I (I make my own coffee, thank you very much). I just get tired of the same, boring coffee that is starting to lose its ability to make me shut my eyes and drift into sweet coffee bliss for a few morning moments. As someone who craves sweets but doesn’t often indulge, I usually make my morning cup of joe (first and last time referring to it as that, I swear) pretty sugary (naturally, of course), and was looking for a way to enhance my morning routine without enhancing my waistline. I dabbled in sugar-free syrups, but it just didn’t feel or taste right. Then I had my a-ha moment; flavored coffee.

From the moment I picked up my bag of Melitta Hazelnut Crème Brulée, I knew I was in love. The sweet smell of caramel, vanilla and hazelnut filled my nose immediately, and I just couldn’t wait to taste it. Just as I thought—the delicate flavors all complemented each other perfectly with a hint of unexpected burnt sugar at the end. Though I wouldn’t consider myself a coffee connoisseur, I was able to taste the complexity that came along with this nutty brew and appreciated its subtly.

Dessert for breakfast? Don’t mind if I do.

Product of the Day: Real Bar

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Real Bar

Whenever I need energy, I usually reach for my morning cup (or three) of coffee to restore my tired self to my relatively normal self. Day in and day out, this is not the healthiest way to do things. In order to shape up, I've turned to Real Bar, a vegan energy bar with distant flavors of chocolate that's also wheat, gluten and soy free.

For those of you with allergies, this is also a great alternative. Real Bar is created in a wheat, gluten and peanut free facility. According to the wrapper, Real Bar "derives its concept from specific and determined lifestyle choices. Real Bar is made of organically grown, sustainable, fairly traded foods. Our goal is to serve you the most delicious, healthiest energy bar you've ever eaten." And it's true, these bars are delicious, a little decadent in the richness and totally good for you. I'll be leaving my coffee cup cold in the cabinet for good!

Tip: A Real Bar is not technically chocolate, but they do include raw organic fair trade dark chocolate. Use them to get a little fix and gain some energy in the process!
