Impeccable service, affordable food, and a relaxing atmosphere sum up Marmara Turkish Restaurant . Located in the predominantly residential area of the upper Upper East Side, the restaurant feels more like a quaint and inviting home than any uncomfortably trendy dive. The dishes are even nostalgic of grandma's home-cooked meals: think comfort food with a Mediterranean gourmet twist.

Marmara offers a $12.95 lunch special with a choice of two courses, including everything from Piyaz, a white bean salad, to Char-Grilled Turkish Meatballs. Lunch, however, is not the only time for deals at Marmara. Their Monday Kabob Night involves a carnivorous spread of 10 kebabs, each available for $9.99. If the notion of so many meat lollipops doesn't appeal, there are also vegetarian options throughout the menu found at affordable prices. Manti, Turkish steamed spinach dumplings, and Bamya, baby okra, are two vegetarian options available for both lunch and dinner.

An appetizer of warm and crispy Mucver (pan-fried zucchini pancakes) came piled in a mound, accompanied with a creamy and garlic yogurt sauce. The portion could have been easily shared by a group of three to four people. The pancakes were light, yet the garlic yogurt took this to the next level of satisfaction.

Next came the Chicken Adana Kabab with a heaping side of rice. The ground chicken was seasoned with parsley and garlic and sweetened with a few plump and spicy red peppers. Dessert consisted of sweet and buttery assortment, including lovely semolina cookies that were both spongey and moist.

Marmara's staff eagerly invites you into their home any time of day.
